Students in this program will take 2 courses with Profe Jara: SPN 302 and SPN 394
(6 credits).

Both courses count towards a major or a minor in Spanish.

SPN 302 (Reading Strategies)
3 credits:


This course is an interactive course that helps you earn more confidence in the Spanish language and allows you to improve your vocabulary and reading strategies in the target language.

SPN 394 (Culture and history of Cantabria and Santander)
3 credits

This course gives you a general understanding of Spain's culture and history focusing on the state of Cantabria and the city of Santander where the program takes place. We will discuss important events and people that have been influential to the areas. We will discuss and sample the local culture through different aspects such as music, films, literature, gastronomy and more. The course will provide you with the tools needed to develop your language proficiency and raise your cultural awareness and appreciation of the Spanish language, the history and the Cultures of Spain. We will have daily discussions that will allow you to explore and discuss interesting topics as well as current events with your host family and to reflect and share your findings with the class. In addition, we will learn idioms that will allow you to earn more fluency and adapt local colloquialisms that will help you earn fluency.
